2002-10-03 - 11:01 a.m. A few responses to guestbook entries: Shiitake: As far as I know, no one in California actually owns a Segway just yet, so the reasons for that legislation are as elusive to me as they are to you. I do predict, however, that the first little old lady who gets creamed by one on the way to the pharmacy and who sues the state for the costs of her hip-replacement surgery will start a chain of events leading directly to the law’s repeal. Badsnake: I may very well be in the minority concerning homoeroticism in Firefly--but at least the show’s Television Without Pity recapper agrees with me. Then again, TVWoP sees HoYay everywhere. For me, I think it’s the general queeniness of that doctor-guy, and the weird longing glances he shoots at--well, every other man on the ship. The show definitely needs some lesbo subtext too, though--Joss Whedon seems to be off his game, there. Inthplay: Sorry, no Snake River Canyon--but I am going to a Halloween party at a friend’s loft that’s up a flight of about 30 stairs. Put enough vodka shots in me that night and I may very well try to re-create the Caesar’s Palace jump. Blivet: I spent Labor Day weekend up in Portland drinking and shopping for books so I completely missed this year’s telethon. Besides, Jerry Lewis is pretty obviously at death’s door and isn’t the gimp activist’s bete noir that he used to be--that role’s been usurped by Christopher Reeve. Who does his shtick all year long and has been freeze-dried so he’ll live forever, so he’s even worse than Jerry. Badsnake again: "Take my temperature"? Good grief, man--aren’t you already getting enough of the sweet lovin’ this month? *** |
