You know what I find really sad? Until this morning I didn't even know there was a shuttle mission going on. I used to live and breathe for news about space travel. At the time of the Challenger disaster I was a reporter for my college newspaper, and I spent the whole day interviewing science faculty and space-travel buffs for what eventually turned into what I still consider one of the best news stories I've ever written. Afterward, I went into near-catatonia for two weeks.

Today, I'm sad, and my heart goes out to the astronauts' families, but life is also going on. Sitting glued to the teevee watching endless stupidity on CNN holds no appeal for me either.

I think I'll go play my saxophone for a while.
