2003-04-02 - 2:01 p.m. Saddam Hussein is the Francisco Franco of the new millennium. Discuss. *** I can't believe that there are actually people in this city upset enough about our Blandy McBland of a mayor's decision not to seek a second term that they're organizing a "draft" campaign. Seriously, the man is the emptiest of empty suits. He makes Al Gore--or even Gray Davis--look dynamic and sexy. He makes one yearn for the colorful eccentricities of the Roger Hedgecock era. Maybe I should run for the office myself. I was going to try for mayor of Toronto instead--I am a mean little man with a Napoleon complex, after all, and according to Blivet that meets all the criteria for the job right there--but I'm starting to think San Diego is in far more desperate need of my services. And it's warmer here. Whaddya think, sirs? *** So the Yellow Cab company here has mothballed its fleet of wheelchair-accessible taxis after only a couple of months. Why? Apparently the cabs were configured so that an occupant in a wheelchair had to ride tilted back at a 30-degree angle. If you're thinking, "Wow, that sounds really unsafe," it is. At this point several questions arise--most notably, "Surely the geniuses at Yellow Cab aren't so FUCKING STUPID that no one on the design committee for their gimp-friendly cabs thought for a second and realized they should solicit input from some folks who FUCKING ACTUALLY USE WHEELCHAIRS, are they?"--but some questions should never be asked lest the answers drive me over the edge. You know? *** Peter Arnett is the Chevy Chase of the new millennium. Discuss. *** |
