2002-08-05 - 7:17 p.m. A few notes from this past weekends Comic-Con: * Fuck, but Elijah Wood is short. That shouldnt come as a surprise, what with him playing a hobbit and all, but I really was expecting him to be six feet tall. I also felt kind of sorry for him--hes known to be a huge comics geek and spent most of last years Comic-Con hanging out on the exhibit floor like everyone else. He wouldnt have dared to do that this time around--when they brought him (along with the actors--whose names I forget--who played Merry and Pippin) onstage at the Two Towers panel about 500 little fan-girls dressed as elves and whatnot started shrieking like they were the Beatles or something. So, Im guessing Elijah gets laid a lot more often now, meaning it doesnt really suck to be him that much. * I think J. Michael Straczynski is one of the best minds in Hollywood right now--but damn, did I feel embarrassed for him after his speech. The sheer volume of fawning by audience members during the Q&A was just plain nauseating--"Hi Mr. Straczynski I just wanted to say that I think youre brilliant that Babylon 5 is the greatest TV series ever and youre a wonderful beautiful human being and and and ..." He should have been provided with a package of moist towelettes to wipe the jism off his face at regular intervals. * On the topic of personal hygiene, the con organizers would be doing my nose--and those of everyone who has to move through crowds in a sitting position--a huge favor if they just required Basic Ass-Wiping lessons to certain individuals before letting them run loose in a packed convention hall. Im just saying. *** |
