Rumor has it the Grammys were on last night. Gee, and I missed them. What a shame.

Its been at least 15 years since I last gave a shit about the Grammys. All awards shows are Industry clusterfucks and the Grammys are the worst of the lot--but there was that one year where Graceland and The Joshua Tree were both competing for top honors and so I felt obligated to pay attention for once. Then last year--or maybe the year before--Carlos Santana won a bunch of stuff for his duet with the Matchbox 20 guy and the only opinion I had on it ran something along the lines of, "Hes still alive? I thought he kicked off a while ago. Oh, wait, that was Jerry Garcia."

Nowadays its all about what J-Lo will wear--and why sit through the show to see that when her picture will pop up all over the Web the next day?

Ive said it before to anyone who will listen--and to some who wont--but the best thing that todays generation of young people can do for Western civilization is to put an end to rock musics domination of youth culture once and for all. It will never happen, of course, since Boomers and GenXers (yes, GenXers too--admit it) are so pathologically desperate to stay young and hip that theyll just keep on shoving their music up the asses of their juniors--who will then turn around as they get older and do the same to their children. There was a chance in the early 90s for rap to break the cycle, but since then its been assimilated for the most part, too.

Dont get me wrong, I love my rock n roll--but Im an old fart, and there are two more generations older than mine who came of age listening to basically the same music. Conceivably, there are kids alive today whose great-grandparents had sex with Elvis on in the background! An adolescents CD collection is supposed to piss off Mom and Dad, not make them all horny and nostalgic.

If anyone under 18 reads this journal, please, just trust me on this: If your parental units barge into your room and ask you to turn up your stereo, something is very, very wrong.
