So the L.A. city council is seriously considering a proposal by animal rights activists to change all references to pet "owners" to pet "guardians" in official documents.
I asked the cat just now what she thought of the idea, and she meowed fiercely in what sounded like an expression of support. Then she bit my finger, and at that point I noticed that her food dish was empty.
Obviously there's some consciousness-raising to be done here.
